At last the reveal of my guest bedroom as photographed by the talented Darryl Pollock Photography. The concept was modeled after a modern elegant boutique hotel room that one might find in Paris or New York. Not large in size but big on style and attention to detail I would be happy to welcome my guests here.
Located in the lower level I had to deal with a bulk head and a basement window placed high on the wall. You may remember from an earlier blog post that I did some research on designing around basement windows and the solution I used here was one that I uncovered. The drapery panels soften the long window and the set of prints hung below fill in some of that empty wall space.
The bulk head was easy to deal with. By tucking the bed under it serves as kind of a canopy for the focal point of the room…the luxurious bed!
I always like to outfit any guest bedroom that I design with a few travel essentials. In this case a selection of freshly laundered towels so guests will know exactly which linens to use.
It was love at first sight when I found the cowhide bench and I snatched it up not knowing which project I would use it in. I think it makes the perfect luggage rack in this space.
A bedside lamp, clock, and carafe of water are all practical comforts while fresh flowers and chocolate make guests feel special.
I also like to include a note pad and pen and an extra set of house keys.
I had room to tuck this elegant little chair in the corner Behind the door is a walk in closet with plenty of space for guests to hang items of clothing. It also houses extra blankets and pillows and has a full length mirror for guests to get ready. The design is truly in the details.
There it is…my modern elegant guest room just waiting for the next set of guests to arrive.
